Nothing like a pile of old rusty washers to get me started on some new mixed media pieces. These were a gift from my husband when he was cleaning out the garage.
I've never used any metal in my work before so this is something new and different.
I have no idea where these are going right now, I'm just enjoying the process.
What a smart husband to not have tossed these little gems in the trash! Looking forward to what wonderful things you will create.

DeleteI love what you're doing with the washers. I just acquired a bunch of vintage mica washers which are really cool for collage since they are semi transparent. Great patterns!

DeleteKathy, Love what you are doing in the photos--great contrast of the circles with the other curved lines. For a fun fabric application, wrap them in white cotton fabric, or I have used silk, you can place the washers strategically or just wrap and fold. Then place in a large old pot with a little water and white vinegar--just covering the fabrics and washers. If the fabric floats, hold down with small rocks. Let them set for a few days and you will have glorious rusted circles on the fabric. The rocks will make the rust darker where they have added pressure.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Ileen. I did stain some fabric by wrapping in various bits of metal last year but I love your idea of placing the washers in a more planned pattern. I'm definitely going to give it a try. I'll let you know what happens. I think I'll try some paper too - I wonder if that will work?
