Sketchbook Challenge - May

May’s Theme – “Can’t resist this!”
A challenge to create images of things you can never resist or to use a ‘resist’ - a medium that masks off areas in your work that you want to preserve. I played with several different ideas and techniques. Here are 3 of my favorites:

Wax paper resist - Pieces of wax paper ironed onto paper to transfer wax and then watercolor over to fill in wherever the wax did not transfer.

Wax crayon resist - Stencil drawing with crayon and then adding a watercolor wash over top.

Gesso resist and freezer paper resist - learned about this technique from one of the Sketchbook Challenge hosts Jane Davies.

  3. Kathy! Wow! I am trying to catch up on some blogs and yours was on the top of my list. I absolutely LOVE this series. We must get together so that you can tell me all about the Sketchbook Challenge. I need a little push I think. :)

  4. I would love that Millie! I know you would enjoy the challenge. It was just what I needed to get me going with a sketchbook and to give me at least one thing to say on the blog each month :) I saw some pics from your Maine trip - beautiful! Maine has always been a special and much loved place for me to go. Would love to hear more trip details.
